Giant Wet Plate Camera

Here at the studio, things are about to get BIG!! I just picked up an aerial camera lens, which is a really huge lens. It weighs about 10 pounds and is 6 inches in diameter. That's what I was looking for as I needed the lens to throw off enough light to cover about 20"x24" or larger. As you can see, I'm shooting into the reflector and the image of the reflector is HUGE on the board behind it which is where the alluminum plate or glass will be. Now the real work begins to actually make it work....I have to build the front part for the lens, and the back wall where the plate will be. Then darken it with duvateen so there are no light leaks and get all of the other trays/materials that will be needed to shoot such a large format. In the end, though, shooting 24"x36" Wet Plate portraits will be crazy!...I'll keep you posted on the new camera! This is a test setup to see if the lens would have the coverage needed...oh, yes it does! :)  Now onto construction...
